Jonathan’s proposal at Ample Hills Creamery: She said yes!

Jonathan got in touch with me about his proposal plans about a month ago, and he had a whole plan and vision for how things would play out. The setting was to be Ample Hills Creamery, his beloved’s favorite spot for delicious local-made ice cream (and I can confirm, it is irresistably good stuff!). He had spoken to their events coordinator about his idea and they agreed to let him book the space for a breif window that afternoon so he could have the staff float balloons and pop some confetti after he popped the question. Everything went off without a hitch– I arrived early and nabbed a nice seat with a view to the counter where they’d be standing when he proposed. The team at Ample Hills gave out buy-one-get-one cards to those who were inside when it was time to clear the space, and a fellow pretended to wash the windows outside and turned away any other potential customers until Jonathan and Amanda arrived. They were right on time– they approached the counter and were offered a taste of a “new flavor” and asked if they’d like to suggest a name for it. Amanda thought about it and made a suggestion. Then Jonathan said, “I’ve got a better idea,” and he turned her to him and got down on one knee… she was so delighted! Balloons spelling “YES” were released over the counter and a sign with congratulations to the couple was brought out. I explained that Jonathan had hired me to take photos and that we could walk to the High Line for some more ‘just engaged’ portraits and that’s just what we did. Along the way Amanda and Jonathan made a few quick calls to share their happy news with family. I was honored and delighted to capture this special moment in their lives. Congratulations to Jonathan and Amanda!

Caitlin & Ben’s NYC Engagement Portraits

Caitlyn and Ben are to be married at Le Chateau in South Salem, New York next June, and since they met as students at NYU’s Business school it was only fitting to start their engagement session down in Washington Square Park. We even ventured over to the very building they spent so much time in and I had them practice their first dance outside! We walked up to Union Square, where Ben used to live, and got shots at some cool spots along the way to the subway, which we rode to Central Park for some final portraits as dusk settled in. All in all it was a beautiful walk with a beautiful couple! I can’t wait for the wedding– congratulations to Caitlyn & Ben!

Laura & Ronnie’s Hudson Valley Wedding at Buttermilk Falls Inn

Laura and Ronnie were married on at one of my favorite Hudson valley venues, Buttermilk Falls Inn.  The forecast had us all worried about exactly when it would rain, but Laura and Ronnie were not deterred from having their beautiful ceremony outside in front of the swan pond and weeping willows with this amazing hexagonal floral arch.  The weather cooperated with our timeline pretty nicely and I was able to shoot the couple’s first look and portraits and it only started to gently rain a little bit when it was time to meet the wedding party and family for group shots.  Buttermilk Falls has an amazing house for the bride to rent and get ready in, and it has a spacious front room with these gorgeous windows looking out over the hudson river, so it was a perfectly pleasant room to do the group pictures in, and then what do you know, it stopped raining just in time for them to wipe off the seats before guests arrived to sit down for the ceremony!  After exchanging their vows and sealing their marriage with a kiss the happy couple greeted guests for a few minutes before heading off for a few “just married” portraits with me at a site where I was able to get a view including a small waterfall from under a stone bridge I had them stand on.  It required a little bit of nervous wet-rock traversing but hey, anything for the shot, am I right?  As we wrapped up those portraits and headed over to the red barn for their cocktail hour and reception the drizzle began again.  It truly seemed to be timed to our movements and needs!  Back at the barn, guests were enjoying a lovely spread on the porch before heading inside for the reception of dinner and dancing.  We set up our photobooth on one end of the porch and Laura and Ronnie had provided a table of fun props for people to play with.  Highlights of the evening included memorable toasts with sage advice and sweet stories, fun song choices that felt personal and induced laughter and lipsynching, and an increasingly wild dance floor as the night went on.  Congratulations to Laura & Ronnie!  I was so thrilled to capture this gorgeous wedding!

Lauren & Harrison’s outdoor summer wedding on the Hudson: Monteverde at Oldstone

Lauren & Harrison were married on a beautiful Saturday in late August on the grounds of the beautiful Monteverde at Oldstone that’s nestled beside the Hudson River. I started the day with Lauren and her bridesmaids getting ready together and having hair and makeup done upstairs, while my assistant photographer captured Harrison and his groomsmen preparing downstairs.  After reading love notes they wrote for one another we brought them together for a first look, and it was off to the races!  This location was stunning and I loved making portraits of this sweet and spontaneous couple and their wedding party, which had an adorable handful of flowergirls and ringbearers in it!  After that we gathered the family for group shots before heading inside for their Ketubah signing ceremony.  Lauren saved her veil as a special addition for the ceremony and wow did she look gorgeous!  Meanwhile guests began arriving and were treated to lemonade on the covered porch before making their way down to the incredible ceremony spot on the expansive lawn.  Harrison was beaming as she walked down the aisle during their ceremony and these two made quick work of tying the knot, sealing their marriage with a kiss and the traditional breaking of the glass. As they walked back down the aisle, officially husband and wife, Harrison took his new bride in his arms and kissed her passionately and I was just tickled to capture this moment.  After a pleasant cocktail hour on the lawn, guests made their way to the beautiful tented reception complete with a dance floor and amazing band to kick off the evening’s party.  Highlights of the evening included a lively Hora, humorous and moving toasts from fathers and siblings, a fabulously engaged dance floor, and not only a brilliant cake, but a surprise oversized cookie for the bride. I was so honored to capture this incredible wedding– congratulations to Lauren & Harrison!

Anwar Moosa & Maria Chaudhry Wedding at Garden City Hotel

Maria and Anwar were married on a beautiful day in August at the Garden City Hotel. What was originally intended to be a small ceremony at a Mosque followed by a luncheon with family and friends had grown during the planning stages to be a more or less full day celebration, complete with a Bollywood style dance performance. I arrived to find Maria still getting ready so I was pleased to be able to capture some of this stage of the day given that it wasn’t in her plan originally. We met with her groom to do portraits outside quickly before gathering with the family indoors where it was cooler, and I enjoyed making some nice group shots of everyone in their wedding finery. After this Maria retreated to the bridal suite to put on her wedding veil before the ceremony, which was in a smaller room nearby. I so enjoyed getting to capture this muslim ceremony– it was short and sweet, officiated by an Imam, and focused primarily on prayers and a document signing. Afterwards, there was much hugging and more group photos to capture the happy couple with their guests in attendance. The reception that followed featured delicious indian food catered for the occasion as well as speeches made in the couple’s honor and a delightful slideshow of photos from their lives. Congratulations to Maria and Anwar! I was so honored to capture their special day!
