Jaymie & Brad’s Country Club Wedding on Long Island

You may remember Jaymie & Brad from their super-fun Coney Island engagement portraits! Well last weekend they finally got tie the knot and celebrate the occasion with all their family and friends out at Fresh Meadow Country Club just outside the city on Long Island.  For me this was a larger-than-average wedding, tons of guests in black tie and yes, a BIG wedding party–is it just me or is this trending?  Either that or I seem to have a niche with big wedding parties!  We totally lucked out with the weather as it was the perfect temperature to ride around on golf carts and shoot portraits outside.  We made the most of the beautiful grounds of the golf course and even got to take the couple down to a pretty little bridge a little ways away from the main buildings.  When we returned we gathered the wedding party for their group shots outside nearby and then went in to do the family portraits in front of the lovely Chuppah prepared by Metro Floral Designs.  I must say, these guys do great work– Jaymie’s bouquet of Spray roses, Ranculus and Panda Amenonies was to die for, and the variety of white orchid centerpieces were beautiful!  After signing their Ketubah, Jaymie & Brad were ready for the big ceremony!  From cocktail hour onwards this party was totally hopping.  What a fun group of guests– the dance floor was extremely active all night with a great soundtrack provided by the musicians of New York City Swing… everyone had a marvelous time!  Congratulations, Jaymie & Brad!!!

Carrie & Brian’s Wedding at The Belle Haven Club in Greenwich, CT

Having shot at a wonderful reception at The Belle Haven Club last year, I knew I’d be in for a real treat when Carrie & Brian booked me to photograph their September wedding at this beautiful Yacht Club in Greenwich, Connecticut. I was particularly excited to shoot a ceremony there (outdoors of course, water views!) since the last time I was up I didn’t see one of these. We started the coverage at Carrie’s parents home nearby and I arrived to find her and all these gorgeous bridesmaids in matching blue silk robes! What a wonderful gift for your gals and it made for some cute pictures of them out on the back porch after their hair and makeup was finished… Carrie got into her gown and veil and we were on our way to the club to meet the fellas. I got a little time with them before the ceremony and my assistants and I set up my open-air photobooth nice and early so it would be all ready for guests to take their own picture from the cocktail hour onwards… Highlights for me included the beautiful sunset sky (and yes, I totally pulled the couple out for a few quick shots– some of my favorites!), the sweet and hilarious toasts (I might have to steal one of the best man’s jokes to use at my brother’s wedding next summer!) some seriously wild dance-floor action (my favorite kind), and of course the couple’s grand exit by boat, during which everyone at the wedding lined up along a stone wall and watched them walk out on the dock and board a friends’ boat and ride off under the moonlight… All in all a fabulous wedding day! Congratulations to Carrie & Brian! My favorites are below…

Sarah & Jeff’s Engagement Portraits: Yorkville (Upper East Side)

Sarah & Jeff are getting married next April at The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls! I was thrilled to book their wedding as I’ve enjoyed shooting at that venue in the past and I can’t wait to see what they do with it. For their engagement portraits we toyed with some spots in brooklyn that were meaningful to them but ultimately they decided to do the shoot in their current neighborhood of Yorkville on the Upper East Side. We got gorgeous weather and I love what we captured– check out my favorites from the shoot!

Laura & Joel: Engagement Portraits in Brooklyn (Gowanus & Red Hook!)

Laura & Joel are getting married in May up in Fort Tryon Park with a reception at New Leaf Restaurant and I was thrilled to book their wedding as I’ve never gotten to shoot up there before– it looks like a great venue!  For the engagement session they had some cool spots in mind near where they live and hang out–mainly in Gowanus and Red Hook.  They borrowed a friend’s car so we could move quickly between a few of the highlights that were meaningful to them, including the softball field they’ve played on together and a beautiful park-y spot (we got so lucky with the sunset & clouds!) by the water where we finished the session!  My favorite spot we found might be the solid block of colorful graffiti in Red Hook with lots of overgrown weeds adding texture and depth to the backgrounds.  Oh and of course the amazing little alley we stumbled across that had all sorts of crazy fire escapes and whatnot– I just knew I would love those shots in black and white or sepia and sure enough, it’s a favorite!  Check out the rest of my favorites and the slideshow below…

Lorena & Nick: Wedding at The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls

Some might say this wedding was a long time coming– Lorena & Nick had known each other since they were children, though they didn’t officially get together until he asked her to his Junior Prom!  The rest, as they say, is history… It was an honor to shoot Lorena & Nick’s sweet celebration of their love with their family & friends at The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls up in the heart of the Hudson River Valley. We arrived early to shoot Lorena’s details and getting ready in the beautiful suite at the Roundhouse’s lodging building, meanwhile my assistant photographer shot with Nick and his groomsmen (who were learning to tie a complicated tie-knot!) over at a room in The Mill building, another of the old industrial buildings that The Roundhouse has beautifully renovated.  We brought them together for a first look and then walked around for some different portraits with and witout the waterfalls.  After a round of family and wedding party groupings we headed indoors for the happy couple to sign their marriage lisence and then it was back outside for the ceremony on the lawn.  Instead of a recessional back down the aisle, this sweet couple opted to greet all the guests row by row, and it was lovely to capture all the hugs and emotion during this ‘receiving line’ of sorts.  Due to the wind and a slight september chill most of cocktail hour was indoors and then guests were welcomed into the lovely reception space where they found round tables cleanly decorated with tall modern floral centerpieces.  After the first dance, Lorena’s father gave a moving toast welcoming Nick to the family.  Highlights included amazing card tricks performed by one of the grooms’ best friends and a boisterous singalong to an excerpt from The Rocky Horror Picture Show!  Check out my favorites below… Congratulations to Lorena & Nick, everyone had a fabulous time and it showed!
