Hilary & Andrew’s Boston Engagement Portraits

Hilary & Andrew are getting married this fall at Le Parker Meridian Hotel, just south of Central Park. Since they live in Boston they wanted to bring me up there for their engagement portraits, and boy did we get a great day for it! They picked me up from the train station and we went to a few choice spots– Beacon Hill, a nice historic district with cobblestone streets and beautiful old architecture, and Boston Public Garden, which was lovely and full of folks out to enjoy Memorial Day Weekend in the sunshine. To get a little variety (and because I didn’t want to miss out on the coastal element) we wrapped the session up near the Institute for Contemporary Art down by the water, where I could pose them near a boat or two! I was so glad I got to do this shoot on their home turf, I know the photos will be all the more meaningful to them because of it. Check out my favorites from the shoot…

Amy & Brett’s Manhattan Engagement Portraits

Amy & Brett are getting married this summer at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers— for their engagement portraits we wanted to capture them first with their adorable dog in the neighborhood around their building, and then for a round of shots in Central Park. We couldn’t have had better weather when the day of their shoot rolled around– what a delightful walk we had! I loved getting them in Columbus Circle at the end, too– we got a great variety of shots, check them out!

Melissa & Ben’s Wedding in Rhinecliff, NY

Melissa & Ben are a sweet Brooklyn couple who met during their time at Vassar College.  For their wedding they chose the Rhinecliff Hotel up in the Hudson River Valley and guests enjoyed a weekend celebration in the quaint town a few hours from the city.  With a view out to the river and a charming old train station right in front of the hotel, I had plenty to work with for their pictures.  I started with Melissa and her bridesmaids getting ready upstairs in one of the rooms while my assistant shot Ben and the fellas downstairs.  We had picked out a spot for their first look where they’d see eachother for the first time, and then jumped into the pictures with them and their wedding party.  I loved getting to utilize this beautiful train station– the stairs, the railroad tracks, it was all great for pictures!  After a batch of family group pictures up on the green guests settled in for the ceremony.  Melissa is a lawyer and fittingly they had Melissa’s aunt, who is a Judge, be the officiant– she did a marvelous job and the ceremony was moving and sweet, complete with vows the couple wrote themselves.  Highlights of this wedding included some live musical performance by the best man, a lively Vassar alumni picture, and of course as always I loved hearing the toasts, which, whether funny or serious and moving are always just a real treat to hear.  I was so honored to be the photographer for this great couple– Congratulations to Melissa & Ben!

Heather & Keith’s Engagement portraits in DUMBO

Heather and Keith are getting married this September up at The Basilica Hudson, up in Hudson, NY.  I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to shoot at this cool and unique venue so keep your eyes peeled for pictures from their big day come the fall!  For their engagement session we selected DUMBO in Brooklyn for it’s variety of interesting backdrops– everything from the skyline and bridge views down in the waterside area to the giant murals and city textures around the cobblestone streets down that way.  They went with a nice and casual everyday look wearing simple jeans and it suited their chill vibe perfectly for the pictures!  Check out my favorites from their shoot… can’t wait for the wedding!

Laura & Joel’s Wedding at Fort Tryon Park & New Leaf Restaurant

Laura & Joel planned a simple and beautiful ceremony followed by cocktails and a lovely clear-tented reception at New Leaf Restaurant, which sits just downhill from Linden Terrace, where they were wed.  I started the day with Laura’s preparation at Lucerne Hotel on the Upper West Side while my assistant shot some preparation with Joel and his buddies at an apartment nearby.  We met up in the gardens (crowded on a beautiful saturday like this one!) up by the venue and had a fantastic round of portraits with them around Fort Tryon Parkbefore heading back to New Leaf to meet up with their families for group shots.  Before signing their Ketubah I got inspired to do a double exposure with the gorgeous tall trees up there as one frame and a silouette of Laura & Joel as the main image– I love what I got!  Highlights of this wedding for me included the Joel’s emotion during the vows, a toast that had me tearing up, and some fantastic dance floor action under the beautiful raindrop-covered transparent tent that night.  I also must say that the food we had was divine– that New Leaf is not messing around, that place is G at what they do!  Oh and another highlight was NOT getting sprayed by the skunk I ran into when I was outside the venue shooting a long exposure of the venue at night on my tripod.  Check out my favorites below… Congratulations to this wonderful couple!
