Christine & Tom’s Wedding at The Roundhouse

Christine & Tom were married on a Saturday in June at The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls, a unique hudson valley venue comprised of a hotel, restaurant, and event space in a set of converted industrial old buildings situated around a beautiful waterfall in the heart of downtown Beacon, NY.  I got there early to set up my Photo Booth in the reception space, and then headed over to start shooting in Christine’s bridal suite where she and the bridesmaids were getting ready.  Though it was raining on and off, there was a silver lining for me in that the sky was so cloudy and even I could actually shoot the group portraits with the waterfall in the background— something that harsh directional sun from a bad angle usually prevents me from doing.  We were thrilled to see that the rain stopped just long enough for us to shoot the majority of the portraits outside, and luckily it held off until after the ceremony, which this beautiful couple was able to enjoy outside.  They included a sweet ‘time capsule’ ceremony and put special items in a box together during their ceremony— mementos and letters and a bottle of wine to be opened and read at a later point in their marriage.    After guests enjoyed a foodie-friendly cocktail hour (The Roundhouse caterers do not disappoint!) they entered the reception space, beautifully decked out with florals by Forever In Bloom.  Christine & Tom were just radiant all night, these two have a really special thing going on!  I was so honored and thrilled to be there to capture it all!
 Congratulations to Christine & Tom!

Greg & Dana’s Engagement Portraits in DUMBO, Brooklyn

Greg & Dana are getting married at Fresh Meadow Country Club on Long Island this coming September.  For their engagement portraits we selected the DUMBO, Brooklyn area for it’s waterfront views of manhattan & the bridges as well as the interesting and colorful textures and murals around this neighborhood, which is always a favorite for pictures.  I was delighted to show up and see that they were wearing splashes of beautiful vibrant color that I knew would play well with the bright beautiful artworks in this neighborhood.  These two are so sweet and cute together, I can’t wait to shoot the wedding!  Congratuations to Greg & Dana!

Brittany & Sean Wedding at The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls

Brittany & Sean planned a beautiful June wedding at The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls, one of my favorite venues in New York’s Hudson Valley region.  I arrived early and found Brittany’s hair and makeup was right on schedule— always great news for the photographer who wants to stick to the timeline!  After putting on her incredible lace-covered gown, we went outside to meet up with Sean for a first look— little did he know there was a pretty exciting gift in store for him!  Brittany had bought him a rolex as a wedding gift and after a traditional first look we had him turn around so she could get out the box and “propose to him” with it.  Such a sweet moment— and of course he had a gift for her in exchange!  Other highlights of the day included a traditional hand-fasting during the ceremony, a ’second line’ of sorts during the recessional which featured the couple with parasols followed by the band and their wedding party dancing their way back down the aisle, and an absolutely incredible performance by the wedding band, NYC Swing.  Their little dog, Harper, the ‘Dog of Honor,’ made some pretty cute appearances during portraits and ceremony too.  I was particularly delighted by a little series of shots my 2nd shooter captured of a hilarious interaction between a flower girl and a ring bearer while I was busy doing the family formals.  We had a blast shooting this wonderful wedding and send out a hearty congratulations to Brittany & Sean and their families!

Lindsay & Courtnie’s Engagement Portraits: Gantry Plaza State Park, Long Island City

Lindsay & Courtnie are getting married at the end of August at Brooklyn Winery, an outstanding venue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They live not far away up in Long Island City just north of the Brooklyn border by the water– so for their engagement session it made perfect sense for us to capture them in their neighborhood. I love shooting in Gantry Plaza State Park up in LIC, it’s like a hidden gem compared to other waterfront parks in Brooklyn– you get the sense that nobody knows it’s up there except the people who live right around it. These women were so fun to shoot with, they are playful and goofy and endlessly sweet together, I can hardly wait for the wedding! Check out my favorites from their shoot and check back in September to see their wedding, no doubt it’ll be gorgeous!

Nicole & James’ Manhattan Wedding at The Little Church Around the Corner & Housing Works Bookstore

Nicole & James planned their wedding at the beautiful and charming Church of the Transfiguration on East 29th street in Manhattan, to be followed by sweet reception at Housing Works Bookstore in SoHo.  I started the day in Nicole & James’ room at The Ace Hotel, where they were preparing just a block away from the church.  I was thrilled when in a moment of pre-wedding stress I suggested Nicole get up and jump on the bed to shake it off and she agreed!  This was something I’d dreamed of shooting for a long time and sure enough she looked radiant!  We went outside to meet her groom and made our way to the church, stopping for a handful of portraits in spots I had scouted around the block.  The Church of the Transfiguration, a.k.a. The Little Church Around The Corner, is historic and charming and full of beautiful details.  I was taken thrilled to shoot this lovely ceremony and afterwards we did their family group portraits at the front of the church before the newlyweds headed outside to join guests on a bus down to SoHo.   James is from Ireland originally and his family all came over for the wedding, so it was fitting that guests were treated to a doubledecker tour between the locations, complete with a storytelling guide.  Highlights of the evening included a lively cocktail hour, a delicious buffet style dinner, and a series of witty and moving toasts that were capped off by speeches given by the bride and groom themselves in tribute to one another.  It was so special being able to hear them share stories of how they met and fell in love with all their family and friends.  I was so honored to capture such an important day in this incredible couple’s journey together. Congratulations to Nicole & James!

Thank you so much, Sarah, for capturing our wedding day so beautifully. I can’t believe how much you were able to photograph at the church and the reception without us even noticing that you were there taking shots – talk about a photographer ninja! The colors in these photographs are magnificent. They bring out the church, and the outfits, so well. My sister has already said that they are the best wedding photographs she has ever seen. I agree. We are incredibly lucky. These photographs will give us and our families joy for years.
