Amy Goodman at The New School, April 4th, 2009

My fiance, Keith and I had the opportunity to go see Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now on Pacifica Radio and co-author of the newly published book Standing Up To The Madness: Ordinary Heroes in Extraordinary Times, speak at the New School on Saturday morning. Keith is a teacher and rare indeed is the weekend when we roll out of the house before 11am… (unless I am shooting a wedding of course).. but this was SO worth it! She has got to be the most skilled and articulate speaker I’ve seen in years… just went ON and on with hardly a pause or a break, and it seemed mostly extemporaneously poring out of her, just making connections between one story and another, tying things to current and historical events, etc. This woman is one of our most valuable journalists, and we are so glad to have seen her. I made this grid-set of the photos to best illustrate her talk.amygoodmanspeaks

Francesca’s Headshot

On Sunday I shot Francesca’s headshots- it was such a beautiful day I really got to enjoy walking around outside the studio with her. Kudos to our makeup artist, Jessica, on a beautiful job, too! Here were a few favorites, nothing is retouched yet. So warm out she could wear her tank top and everything…

Author Portrait

I recently shot some portraits for friend and writer Teddy, whose first novel Kapitoil, will be published by Harper Perennial in April 2010. His work has been featured in various magazines, and he’s a frequent contributor to the cult favorite McSweeney’s… In my preparation for the shoot I looked at the work of Marion Ettlinger, the most celebrated author photographer of all time… Congratulations on your book deal, Teddy!

Baby Zackary at 6 months (Already?!)

Today I shot some portraits with Zackary Cavallo and family… since we shot outdoors at the 3 month session I figured today we’d do more inside studio shots (and at 1 year we’ll do more outside since he’ll probably be quite active then, perfect for a park visit!). Boy what a cute smile this baby has… and he’s SO happy! You should see the way he wiggles and dances, i’ve never seen anything so adorable. Lydia offered to take a shot of me with Zackary at the end of our session, what a delightful image she got too, check me out. And yes… I like holding babies…049zackary6months_bysarahtew

Dear Sarah – I should have written long ago. Your photographs are indescribably beautiful. They make me feel like reaching right in to touch that darling baby and his soft skin. I feel so happy that Lydia, Jay and Zackary are having this wonderful experience with you. Your future looks very bright. Thank you for sharing this portion of your journey with our family. Warm wishes – Zackary’s NY Grandma, Colleen Cavallo.
